Abstract
A theory of ground-state Ramsey fringes is developed. The fringes are produced when two pulses, time delayed with respect to one another and each consisting of a pair of traveling waves, interact with an ensemble of atoms. Advantages of this technique for meaurements of inertial effects and atomic recoil are discussed.
